On May 15, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang said that China and Sri Lanka are each other's important cooperative partners, and the friendly exchanges between the two peoples have spanned thousands of years. The Chinese side condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka and firmly supports efforts made by the Sri Lankan government and people to restore domestic tranquility. President Xi Jinping held a fruitful meeting with Mr. President and jointly looked into the future of China-Sri Lanka relations, sending a positive message. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations with the Sri Lankan side, advance mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment, consolidate traditional friendship, strengthen the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the development strategies of the Sri Lankan side, and push the construction of major cooperation projects. The Chinese side is ready to strengthen cooperation with the Sri Lankan side within multilateral frameworks to safeguard the common interests of both sides.

Maithripala Sirisena thanked the Chinese side for extending condolences over a series of terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka and China have a long history of friendship and exchanges, which have been constantly consolidated. The Sri Lankan side appreciates the Chinese side's long-standing support for Sri Lanka's economic and social development, and China is a reliable friend of the Sri Lankan side on multilateral occasions such as the United Nations. The Sri Lankan side stands ready to work with the Chinese side to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, and pass on the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
