On May 14, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that both China and Armenia are ancient civilizations with a long history, and the ancient Silk Road has sustained the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples to this day. At present, China-Armenia friendly cooperative relations have enjoyed sound and stable development. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Armenian side, promote mutual learning between the two civilizations that will serve as a strong support for consolidating long-lasting friendship between the two countries as well as jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, to inject new impetus into regional cooperation and development. Both sides should render mutual support on each other's core interests and major concerns. In recent years, China-Armenia practical cooperation has enjoyed rapid development within the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Armenian side, tap into cooperation potential, and push bilateral practical cooperation for more tangible results in various fields including trade and investment, mining exploitation, metal smelting, renewable energy and infrastructure construction. The two sides should intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthen cooperation on anti-terrorism, law enforcement and security, and jointly combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism.

Nikol Pashinyan warmly congratulated on the 70h anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and congratulated the Chinese side on successfully holding the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. As ancient civilizations, Armenia and China enjoyed close trade and cultural contacts in history. Armenia views bilateral relationship from a strategic perspective and stands ready to actively participate in the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative. Armenia is firmly committed to fighting terrorism.
