Ambassador Li Baodong Meets with Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed of Transitional Federal Government of Somalia

On March 9, Ambassador Li Baodong, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for March, met with Somali TFG Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, who is in New York for the Security Council open debate on Somalia.

Ambassador Li briefed on the preparation for the Security Council open debate on Somalia, which will be held on March 10 at China's initiative. He stressed that China consistently supports the peace process in Somalia, and supports the TFG in promoting the political process and national reconciliation in Somalia within the framework of the Djibouti Agreement. The open debate will focus on how to seek an appropriate solution of the Somali issue through a comprehensive strategy.

Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed highly appreciated China's initiative, positively appraised Somalia-China relations and hoped that China would continue to play an important role in promoting settlement of the Somali issue.
