Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Li Baodong gave a group interview at the Headquarters of the Chinese Mission on 30 May 2012 to brief the media on China's Security Council Presidency in June 2012.

Ambassador Li said that China would assume the rotating presidency of the Security Council in June 2012. He told the media that according to the current arrangement, the Security Council would review close to 30 agenda items in June, including Syria, Sudan and South Sudan, the Middle East and other major international hotspot issues. The Security Council would also hold an open debate on protection of civilians in armed conflict, he said.

According to Ambassador Li, the Security Council will have a very full agenda in June. He said that as the rotating president and a permanent member of the Security Council, China would uphold the principle of being impartial, neutral, efficient and result-oriented and ensure the smoothness of all Security Council's work so as to effectively uphold international peace and security.
